Award-winning water quality and waste management

The Blue Flag takes into consideration criteria such as the quality of bathing water, the management of water and waste on the site, as well as the cleanliness of the beaches, as detailed by the label on his site.

Particular attention is also paid to the policy of prevention and limitation of green algae, to environmental education or even to accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

Occitanie, the most labeled region

With 109 beaches and 19 classified marinas Blue flag, the Occitanie region is the most labeled. Five beaches in Argelès-sur-Mer (Pyrenees-Orientales) or the port of Cap d’Agde (Hérault) are among the lucky ones.

For aficionados of the Southeast, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has 96 beaches and 31 ports labeled Blue Flag. There are in particular the beaches of Cassis (Bouches-du-Rhône), near the Calanques, or the stretches of sand on the Cannes coast (Alpes-Maritimes).

On the Atlantic coast, 35 beaches in New Aquitaine have been labeled, against 39 the previous year, note France Blue New Aquitaine. Only the port of La Rochelle (Charente Maritime) has achieved this in the region. In Brittany, 35 beaches and ten ports are blue flag classified. Further north, 24 beaches and eleven ports are labeled along the Normandy coast, as are four beaches and four ports in Hauts-de-France.

However, there is no need to go close to the coast to enjoy a labeled beach. The areas around lakes and streams are also distinguished. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has 24 Blue Flag beaches.

26 new winners

For this 2020 edition, 26 new places plant the Blue Flag flag, 21 beaches, distributed in twelve new municipalities, and five new marinas (including two in Corse-du-Sud, Bonifacio and Ajaccio), reports France Blue.

The city of Saint-Raphaël (Var) alone has ten of the new labeled beaches. Inland, the beach of the nautical center of Evian-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie) and that of Lake Aubusson d’Auvergne (Puy-de-Dôme) are among the new winners.
