Menag Yaqut Compare the Rules of a Mosque Speaker with a Dog’s Barking

Minister of Religion Ruby Cholil Qoumas say usage loudspeaker in mosque should be regulated in order to create a more harmonious relationship in the life of inter-religious people. He also likens the barking of a dog that disturbs neighbor’s life.

“Let’s imagine, I’m Muslim, I live in a non-Muslim environment, then their house of worship rings the prayer loudly five times a day simultaneously, how does that feel?” Yaqut said in Pekanbaru, Riau, quoted BetweenWednesday (23/2).

“Another example, for example, is that our neighbors, left, right, front and back, raise all dogs, for example, barking at the same time, aren’t we disturbed? This means that we must regulate all sounds so they don’t become a nuisance,” Yaqut added.

Yaqut said he did not prohibit Muslim houses of worship from using loudspeakers or prayers. But its use, said Yaqut, must be regulated so as not to interfere with the lives of non-Muslim religious communities.

He stated this rule as a guide to increase the benefits and reduce the useless. Because according to him, Indonesia, which is predominantly Muslim, almost every 100-200 meters area has a mosque or prayer room.

The Ministry of Religion has issued Circular (SE) Number 5 of 2022 regarding guidelines for using loudspeakers in mosques and prayer rooms. This letter regulates the use of time and power from loudspeakers in mosques and prayer rooms.

“This circular was issued with the aim that no other religious community would be disturbed. We know that it is a symbol of Islam, please use the Toa, but of course it must be regulated. It is regulated how the volume should not be loud, a maximum of 100 decibels,” he said.

Yaqut also said that the time when the speakers can be used also needs to be set, either after or before the call to prayer is sounded.

“How to use the Sepiker inside or outside the mosque is also regulated. There is no prohibition. This rule was made solely to make our society more harmonious,” he said.

Yaqut said loudspeakers in mosques and prayer rooms were arranged so that no one felt disturbed. In addition, according to him, the intention to use loudspeakers as a means of spreading Islam can be carried out without disturbing other religious people.

“We must respect those who are different from us. There is also a lot of support for this,” he said.
