Memphis Depay faces a return to Atlético Madrid. He came over from FC Barcelona in the winter. Remarkably enough, the 29-year-old Dutchman made almost as many minutes for Barça and Atlético (508) this season as for the Dutch national team (505).
The club will play an away match against Real Valladolid on Sunday. To save the season, Atlético must finish in the top 4 of La Liga. Then it will play in the Champions League next season. In that case, Depay and co can take revenge for this season’s campaign. Atlético finished bottom of the group stage.
Depay’s contract expires in 2025. In the past, the Dutch vice-top scorer of all time, in addition to PSV and Barça, also played for Manchester United and Olympique Lyon.
