The Memory Balcony has won the Groningen Architecture Prize 2021. The work of art that serves as a lookout point over the southern ring road, and soon the Zuiderplantsoen, received the highest rating from the jury.

Ring road material used
The Memory Balcony defeated seven other nominees in the battle for the prizes. The red lookout point at the Hereweg exit was designed by Studio LA, commissioned by Kunstpunt Groningen. It was built by Combination Herepoort and Men van Staal. In doing so, material from the demolished southern ring road used.

The second prize from the jury went to the new NNZ head office and third place was for the redesign of the Akerkhof.

Groningen Architecture Month
The prizes were awarded on Friday in the former grain warehouse of EMG Faktors on the Eemskanaal. The Groningen Architecture Prize is an initiative of the Groningen Architecture Day Foundation (DAG), GRAS and Atelier Stadsbouwmeester. It is part of the Groningen Architecture Month.
