Members of the British royal family donned special outfits for a memorial service in honor of Prince Philip

This week, members of the British royal family paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, Philip, at a service at Westminster Abbey.

We will still remember the wife of Queen Elizabeth II in the coming week, because April 9 is the anniversary of his death. On the service almost all members of the British royal family arrived in green robes. And it made special sense.

The shade of dark green that the Queen and other relatives chose for the service had a special connection with her late husband. The Queen, along with her daughters Princess Anne and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, opted for a special shade of deep green known as Edinburgh Green.

This hue is closely associated with Prince Philip, as it was the color of his livery and was used in many official areas associated with his position, including the uniforms of his staff and his cars. Indeed, even Land Roverwhich was used to transport his coffin to his funeral last year, had a shade of that color.

It was a fitting tribute to Prince Philip as the memorial service partly made up for the fact that duke’s funeral were significantly reduced last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with only 30 visitors at the time.
