House Intelligence Committee Member Discloses Serious National Security Threat

Washington – In a cryptic statement issued yesterday, Rep. Mike Turner, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, revealed that Congress members have been made aware of a serious national security threat. The statement urged President Biden to declassify all information related to the threat so that necessary actions can be taken collectively.

The Russian Space Threat

While the statement did not detail the nature of the threat, a U.S. official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed to CBS News that the information relates to Russian capabilities in space. The U.S. officials revealed that Russia is likely developing a nuclear-capable weapon that could potentially eliminate U.S. satellites, disrupting the country’s communication capabilities. However, there is no evidence to suggest the weapon has been deployed yet.

The threat, not yet an active capability, is nevertheless seen as a significant concern. Russian space launches, named Cosmos, have long been carrying classified payloads for the Russian Ministry of Defense, indicating the potential for advances in space warfare.

Leaders Urge Caution

Lawmakers who were briefed on the national security threat have emphasized the need for attention but have cautioned the public against panic. The top Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Jim Himes and House Speaker Mike Johnson, both called for a measured response and stressed that Congress would work on addressing the matter.

Senate Intelligence Committee leaders, Chairman Mark Warner and Vice Chairman Marco Rubio, are also actively tracking the intelligence revealed by Rep. Turner. They are discussing an appropriate response with the Biden administration and, being careful not to disclose critical information, have underlined the need for caution and secrecy.

Biden Administration’s Response

The Biden administration is taking the threat seriously and has reached out to the key congressional leaders. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan has scheduled a personal briefing for Thursday with the “Gang of Eight.” Following the briefings, the appropriate response will be determined.

While the information remains limited and the true nature of the threat is yet to be fully revealed, the Biden administration wants to reassure the American public that they are dedicated to protecting national security.

“I am confident that President Biden, in the decisions that he is taking, is going to ensure the security of the American people going forward.” said Jake Sullivan, White House national security adviser.

Response from Moscow

Responding to the reports of the national security threat, the Kremlin brushed them off, suggesting they were a ploy to push forward a stalled bill for providing U.S. aid to Ukraine. Russian officials demanded evidence to support the claims and criticized the U.S. for making baseless accusations.

This alarming revelation of a serious national security threat demands the attention of the highest levels of government. However, the immediate danger remains unclear, and officials urge the public to remain calm until more information is declassified and made public.
