Mega update 2.1 for Cyberpunk 2077 adds a lot – XBNL

CD Projekt Red has something special in store for Cyberpunk 2077 fans. Update 2.1 will be released on December 5, at the same time as the release of the Ultimate Edition. And what an update, a lot is coming.

During a Twitch stream, producer Monika Janowska and quest director Paweł Sasko, along with senior community managers Amelia Kołat and Alicja Kozera, revealed that the long-awaited subway will be added to the game. Yes, you read that right: the subway is coming to Night City! This feature, which was already seen in the original trailer and the Phantom Liberty trailer, is finally becoming a reality.

Players can travel between 19 metro stations, which can be used both as fast travel points and for a real metro experience. There are five subway lines in Night City, each with their own map. The subway can be accessed after the Konpeki Plaza mission in the game, when players receive a call from the subway director.

Quest director Sasko emphasized that this addition is intended as a role-playing feature. “We wanted to really immerse players in the world and provide an immersive way to travel through the world,” he said.

But that’s not all. The update also brings the ability to carry a radio, so you can listen to Cyberpunk 2077’s various radio stations, even outside a vehicle (finally, because I missed this). There are some limitations – you can’t listen during dialogue or with scripted music – but in these cases the radio clicks as if it’s going off, so as not to disrupt the scene.

Boss fight!

Also being changed are the boss fights. The fights against Adam Smasher, among others, are improved. This feisty boss has been at the center of complaints from fans, who compared his abilities in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime to those in the game. The battle with Adam Smasher became a meme, with players finding ways to defeat Smasher with ease.

Car races also become repeatable. The three races of Claire Russell’s questline will no longer be the only races in Cyberpunk 2077. Players must complete these three first, but will then be asked by the race organizer for more racing action. Winning races earns discounts on the Auto Fixer website, making new vehicles cheaper.

CD Projekt Red is adding even more vehicles, including five motorcycles and Johnny Silverhand’s original Porsche 911. While details are still scarce, Sasko suggested that this new car can be unlocked through a brand new quest. Impromptu car chases are also added, for when certain gangs seek revenge for choices the player has made, and enemies who see the player stealing a car for car theft missions will also give chase.

The motorbike moves are also getting an upgrade, with wheelies, flips, leans and more being added to Cyberpunk 2077. Players can now also throw knives and axes from bikes starting with Update 2.1. A section of the highway in Night City, which was previously closed and devoid of traffic, has now been overhauled into a fully functioning and busy road.

A +1 for accessibility

The developer has also overhauled its accessibility options, with a dedicated menu in Cyberpunk 2077. All previous accessibility settings have been moved here, along with new features like turning off the timer in the hacking mini-game and more. A full explanation of the revised accessibility options will be released soon, CD Projekt Red said.

Update 2.0, which arrived alongside the Phantom Liberty expansion in September, was expected to be the last major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 until CD Projekt Red announced in November 2023 that the Ultimate Edition would also launch alongside a new update, Update 2.1 .

As for Update 2.0, it laid the foundation for the new Cyberpunk 2077 experience, with features like a new perk system and improved AI. It also put to rest an Elon Musk fan theory, a reference to the late racing legend Ken Block, and bizarre additions to the game’s biggest mystery.

Surprisingly, CD Projekt has even included a way for players to completely dismiss the events of the paid expansion, with certain dialogue options locking the missions forever.

Lots of new additions and I think it’s perfect timing to pick up the game again. I haven’t played the expansion myself yet, so now I’m completely convinced to play the game again including DLC. I last played in 2020, so it’s okay for a while. They have done a really good job, so I feel like I’m about to get a completely new experience. I can not wait!
