“Meet Atsushi Kaneko: The Mastermind Behind the Graphic Novel “Evol””

Influenced in his early days by Punk Rock then Garage Rock and Low Brow artists as the author of comics Paul Popehe first studied economics, hoped to move towards cinema before opting for manga in 1990 when his manga Ratty Gets New Way catches the eye of the editor Shōgakukan.

Then appears Bambia crazy road-comic graphically influenced by the mangaka Suehiro Maruo (The Girl with Camellias, The Caterpillar, Tomino the Cursed…), the American author Paul Pope and his review THB and violent as a film by Tarantino.

A masterstroke published in France by IMHO (follows the urban thriller Soil published by Ankama, nominated twice at the Angoulême Festival and winner of the Grand Prix de l’imaginaire in 2012.

After a short film experience, he adapts the classic Dororo d’Osamu Tezuka under the title Search & Destroy (3 volumes, Delcourt/Tonkam, 2012) bringing an end to a masterpiece that had been interrupted by its original publisher who thought Tezuka at the end of the race, just before the creation of Black Jack which revives it completely. Kaneko gives it a breathtaking modern breath.

Finally arrived Evol (a mix of the mantra Evil, Evolution & Love), a story of superheroes that would not be denied Alan Moorewhose remarkable graphic perfection and sticky atmospheres are worthy of those of Daniel Clowes or Charles Burns.
