Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic lost his leadership in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), an updated version of which is published on the official website of the organization.

Carlos Alcaraz removed him from first place. The Spaniard succeeded thanks to the victory over Russian Daniil Medvedev in the Masters final in American Indian Wells.

Medvedev lost in the Masters final and broke the record streak

Djokovic has been at the top of the rankings since January 30, after winning the Australian Open. In Melbourne, he won the 22nd title in the Grand Slam tournaments, repeating the record of Spaniard Rafael Nadal among men. The absolute record belongs to the Australian Margaret Court (24). On February 24, the Serbian broke the absolute record for the number of leading weeks in the rankings of tennis players, which since November 1996 has been held by the German Steffi Graf (277). In total, he led the rankings for 380 weeks.

Djokovic denied entry to US

The Serb was unable to take part in another American Masters tournament, in Indian Wells, due to the denial of special permission by the US authorities to enter the country due to the lack of a COVID-19 vaccination. The next tournament of the prestigious series will be held in Miami. Djokovic will also miss him for a similar reason.

How the position of Russians in the ATP ranking has changed

There are three Russians in the top 100. Medvedev, after reaching the final, rose from fifth to sixth place. Andrey Rublev, who reached the 1/8 finals of the tournament in Indian Wells, retained the seventh line. Karen Khachanov dropped to 16th place, losing one position.
