Several hundred residents of Montenegro gathered in front of the government house in Podgorica as part of a protest action. The protesters object to the intention of the country’s authorities to facilitate the conditions for obtaining Montenegrin citizenship. As noted, “Balkan columnist“, this step would help tens of thousands of representatives of Russia and Serbia obtain citizenship.
Reportedly, some citizens planning to come to the action from other cities were unable to do so due to travel restrictions imposed in connection with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Protesters with Montenegrin flags chanted: “This is not our government!” and “We will protect Montenegro from enemies.”
