Measurement in the Breisgau S-Bahn indicates high aerosol concentration – Gottenheim

In the mornings on the Breisgau S-Bahn, the air can be thick. This is shown by carbon dioxide measurements from the Badische Zeitung. Experts see this as an indicator of a possible risk of corona infection.

On the section from Gottenheim to Freiburg, the CO 2 content in morning commuter traffic was briefly over 2000 ppm (see info). “Such pollution of the indoor air is rated as unacceptable,” says Eckart Schultz, an expert in air hygiene. The outside air had a concentration of about 470 ppm. The problem: with an increased CO 2 content, the probability of a corona infection could also increase.

At 7.15 a.m. it dawns over the Breisach train station. Gray shadows with heavy rucksacks flit across the platform. The train to Freiburg is waiting on the platform, the doors beeping. The measuring device shows a CO2 content of around 470 ppm on the platform. Schultz makes the following hypotheses: The more exhaled air there is in an interior, the higher the CO2 content.

And when this increases, the concentration of the aerosols also increases. …
