In Yakutia, eight cases of measles were registered in eight months of 2023 this year. Almost all of the cases were in areas where there were outbreaks of the disease.

As I told you “Yakutia» Chief epidemiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Republic Marianna Danilova, the last outbreak of measles in Yakutia occurred in 2019, when more than 60 people fell ill. The disease was then brought to the republic from another region. The first cases were recorded among employees of one organization, and then among the population.

– Over the eight months of this year, six cases of measles have been registered, which are also imported. These residents of Yakutia, who were not vaccinated against measles, were in other regions of the country where outbreaks of the disease occurred. They became infected there, came and got sick here,” the epidemiologist said.

At risk are all unvaccinated people, especially patients with chronic diseases and immunodeficiency. As a rule, the disease is more severe in adults than in children. The reason for this is concomitant diseases.

The only preventive measure is a vaccine.
