McLaren | The Artura opens a new chapter in McLaren history

The idea is not new. Ferrari experimented with it with the LaFerrari and, more recently, with the SF90; Porsche, with the 918 Spyder and McLaren, with the P1. The hybridization of supercars has been shown on several occasions to be effective in increasing the performance potential of heat engines. McLaren is now coming back with the idea, but with greater accessibility.

The McLaren Artura

So here is the Artura, the very first model from the Woking manufacturer to be built on the MCLA architecture composed, you guessed it, of carbon fiber. From the outset, we play with caution in the evolution of the design of this supercar. Difficult, therefore, to dissociate it at first glance from the 570S, the old entry-level model from McLaren. This is not problematic, however, you will agree. It remains compact and extremely well proportioned.

Exit the V8

Never mind, it’s really behind the scenes that this Artura is revolutionary for McLaren. Embedded in a plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of covering around thirty kilometers, this supercar abandons the twin-turbo V8 so dear to the brand for a brand new 3.0 L V6 engine still placed in the center, at the rear.

The Artura will have an electric heating and air conditioning system operating independently of the heat engine.

It features a steep 120-degree angle to accommodate the two turbochargers in the center of the V. Together with an electric motor housed in the dual-clutch transmission (eight-speed), it produces 671 hp and 530 lb-ft of torque only distributed. to the rear wheels.

The Artura will also have an electric heating and air conditioning system operating independently of the heat engine. An Ethernet architecture will manage the constant flow of data between the various mechanical parts, which will reduce the use of cables by 25% and, therefore, the total weight of the vehicle, in addition to increasing the transfer speed.

The Artura will be able to do 0-100 km / h in 3 seconds.

Despite all these technical advances, this new model will still be light, at 1,498 kg, which will allow 0-100 km / h in 3 seconds and a maximum speed of 330 km / h.

In dealerships as of the third quarter of the year at a starting price of $ 277,000.
