According to Sky Germany, Mazepin ends up in Haas. Uralkali and Mazepin’s positions are obviously much worse today than last week. Formula 1 canceled the Russian Grand Prix and today announced the complete termination of the contract. Britain will ban Russian riders from racing on its territory, and Australia will take a similar step. Companies and other entities are canceling cooperation with Russia.
Haas is in F1 primarily to promote the business of Gene Haas, who specializes in the manufacture of CNC machines. If a Russian pilot, supported by his father, a Russian oligarch with ties to Putin, supported the team through a Russian company, it would be devastating from a marketing point of view.
Mazepina is to be replaced by Pietro Fittipaldi, who already has two F1 races. In 2020, he finished the season with injured Grosjean.
The atmosphere was not perfect
The question is whether Mazepin Haasu will be so missed. According to the RaceFans website, the new Drive to Survive series makes it quite clear that the atmosphere inside the team was far from ideal last year.
Dmitry Mazepin, the owner of Uralkali, warned the team that he would withdraw support if the chassis was not exchanged between his son and teammate Mick Schumacher.
Mazepin and his father believed that the two chassis were not the same and that the Russian pilot was losing Schumacher.
During an exchange with teammate Jesper Carlsen at the Spanish Grand Prix, Dmitry Mazepin warned: “If this does not change, I will send an official letter that we will stop funding and stop racing.”
