Mayor: Severodonetsk has been completely occupied by Russian troops

Russian troops have completely occupied Severodonetsk, the city’s mayor, Oleksandr Stryuk, said on Saturday.


The Ukrainian army announced on Friday that it would step down from Severodonetsk to better protect neighboring Lysichansk.

Struk also said that the occupiers of Severodonetsk were now filming a propaganda video with civilians leaving the bombing plant at the Azot shelter.

“These people have spent about three months bombing shelters and cellars. They have a hard time emotionally, psychologically. Now they need help, medical and psychological, ”said Strjuk.

Currently, civilians can only travel from Severodonetsk to the Russian-occupied territories. It is not possible to evacuate people through the contact line, Strjuk said.

The head of the Luhansk district administration, Serhiy Hayday, said on Friday that Russian troops had almost completely destroyed Severodonetsk, all critical infrastructure had been destroyed, 90% of the city had been damaged and 80% of residential buildings had to be demolished because they could not be rebuilt.
