During the night of last Saturday and the morning of this Sunday, different incidents were registered in the municipalities of Victoria, Curacautín and Traiguén, which were taken by Mapuche community members.
The clashes between civilians ended with destruction in the municipalities mentioned above, two burned vehicles in Curacautín and various detainees.
“Our municipality is absolutely destroyed. What hurts me most is that here we are 11 communes in the province of Malleco and half of the communes were taken. Here was the interior minister and he did not have the capacity to receive us, “said Javier Jaramillo, mayor of Victoria.
“The pressure of the citizens forced the Carabinero to evict the people who occupied our municipality”added the communal authority.

“What we have seen is painful. See citizens facing each other, it cannot be a fact that it happens again “he declared.
Jaramillo insisted that the conflict was sparked in part by the inaction of the authorities: “This confrontation occurs because we have incompetent authorities, deaf authorities, such as a governor who did not appear, who does not answer messages or the WathsApp.”
“A few minutes ago the chief of staff of the Interior Minister called me, surprised to say that our commune had been taken.”, confessed the mayor.
Carabineros reported that at least 20 people were arrested after the disorders in the Victoria commune.
