Mayor: New York will open all over again in July

NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – New York wants to lift all corona restrictions again in July. “Our plan is to fully open New York from July 1st,” Mayor Bill de Blasio told MSNBC on Thursday. “We are ready for stores to reopen, companies to reopen, offices, theaters, full steam.” The mayor did not initially provide any further details.

Already now there is not much missing for a complete opening of the metropolis on the American east coast: With the exception of major events, most things are allowed and open – albeit almost always with distance, hygiene and mask regulations and sometimes limited capacities.

However, some cultural institutions such as the Metropolitan Opera have announced that they will not open again until the end of the year. Broadway theaters plan for fall. New York was the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States last spring. In the meantime, however, the infection rate has stabilized. The number of new infections is falling. The vaccination campaign is progressing rapidly./cah/DP/jha
