Former Russian football player Igor Denisov criticized, this Wednesday, the invasion that Russia is carrying out in Ukraine, characterizing it as a “catastrophe”, a “disaster and “a complete horror”. In an interview with the YouTube channel Nobel, the former captain of the Russian football team revealed that he was “a little scared” by what could happen to him after making his position on the war public.

“I’m not sure if I’m going to prison or getting killed, but I’m speaking my mind”said Igor Denisov, who assured that, despite fearing reprisals, “he will not hide”: “I will not leave Russia. I’m not going anywhere because I don’t want to.”

Revealing that he has been having sleepless nights because of the war, the former Russian national team captain said he did not understand why Russia invaded Ukraine. “Maybe because I don’t know much, maybe because I don’t know much about history, but I don’t”he found, noting, however, that he is “against the death of people”.

At the beginning of the conflict, Igor Denisov wanted to publish a video on his social networks showing his position against the war, directly addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, friends advised him not to do so, claiming that no one would care about his opinion.

The former football player maintains the conviction that the war must come to an end, being “ready to kneel in front” of Vladimir Putin so that whatever conflict ends.

The Russian parliament recently passed a law that does not allow the spread of misinformation about the status of what it says is the special military operation in Ukraine. Anyone who does so risks a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
