Max Verstappen Dominates Qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix on a Drying Track: Recap and Starting Grid

Max Verstappen dominated qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix on a drying track. The third part was interrupted by two red flags.

It rained for much of Saturday in Zandvoort. Qualifying also started on a wet track. Riders put the tires on for the transitional conditions. The track started to dry out during qualifying.

We saw a few trips off the track in the first two parts of qualifying, but no red flags.

Chou, Ocon, Magnussen, Bottas and Lawson did not advance from the first part. The latter Liam Lawson replaced the injured Daniel Ricciardo in the Netherlands.

Stroll, Gasly, Hamilton, Cunoda and Hülkenberg did not advance from the second part.

In the third part of the qualification, slicks came to the fore. Some riders did go out on intermediates, but immediately returned to the pits for slicks.

Logan Sargeant advanced to Q3 for the first time, but his time in the top ten was short lived. The Williams driver spun and crashed in the second corner. Qualifying was interrupted for an extended period as the barriers had to be repaired.

Another accident occurred shortly after the restart. Charles Leclerc crashed in the ninth corner. There were 4 minutes left until the end of the qualification.

Max Verstappen eventually won qualifying ahead of Lando Norris and George Russell. Albon had a good qualification, finishing fourth.
