Mauricio Pochettino addresses Spurs fans and his relationship with Daniel Levy

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reacts to the prospect of Spurs fans booing him on his return

Pochettino joined Chelsea last summer, appointed in the hope of replicating the work he had done at Spurs, the Blues’ rivals and opponents of tomorrow. The decision to join his former club’s arch-rivals did not go down well with supporters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On Spurs fans likely to attack him on Monday, Pochettino told the Guardian: “I haven’t decided to leave the club: “I haven’t decided to leave. We broke up because I was laid off. This is not a criticism of the club… but we didn’t decide to leave. Maybe we would still be here.”

Pochettino also addressed his tumultuous relationship with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who fired him in 2019. He added: “Daniel is very intelligent. It’s incredible, the work he does for Tottenham. You look at Tottenham 20 years ago and now, how they have changed, how they have evolved. You have to recognize his work.”

“He sent me a message when I signed here, wishing me the best for me and everyone. We have to be natural. We’ve been working together for almost six years. How much has happened in six years? Good and bad! We can’t forget our relationship today.

Pochettino will look to end his former side’s impressive unbeaten run in the league with a victory. His counterpart, Ange Postecoglou, also took the reins of his team last summer and earned praise from supporters for quickly turning things around. This is the first time that the two leaders have faced each other.
