Mauricie: a specialized educator leaves her job due to precarious conditions

A specialized educator denounces the working conditions in which she had to supervise her students, while there is a shortage of staff in the school environment.

Mélanie Allard left the education ship after 8 years of service because working conditions have become very difficult, especially the psychological and physical violence, she explained.

“It doesn’t even make sense anymore. To be hit, thrown from benches, desks, chairs. Verbally, how can we talk to each other, but we can’t react to that. We have to manage the crisis by staying still and in a good mood,” he described.

He also reports the lack of support received from his employer, as well as the failure to recognize the salary in relation to the number of years of experience, as well as the lack of suitable equipment to carry out his duties.

According to the educator, who also filled the hours of kindergarten, errors on pay slips are also frequent.

“We pay 2,200 people every two weeks. Could it be that there are 25 minutes of support staff in such a school that has not yet been registered in their file? Yes. Is the majority paid? Yes, “replies Denis Lemaire, director general of the Center de services scolaire de l’Énergie.

Situations like these are not uncommon according to the Mauricie Support Employees Union. Difficult conditions alienate employees and the solution would be to have more full-time staff.

“There is a lot of part-time work in the Service Center. It is less tempting to go part-time when you have a family life, ”explained union president Guy Larouche.

“We could be in an election period, we won’t find the money tomorrow morning. If we hire, we put everyone there at 35 hours, well, it means that instead of having 700, maybe we will have 400, ”added the general manager of the Service Center.

Since the beginning of the year, 15 support staff members have resigned.
