There is “an unpredictable return to the threat” of using nuclear weapons, together with the “search for new weapons with increasingly disruptive effects and increasingly cruel consequences”, added the head of state.

The National Academies of Sciences of the G7 countries have produced documents “on the alarm over nuclear weapons, with an unpredictable return to the nuclear threat, accompanied by the growing search for the production of new weapons with increasingly disruptive effects”. But also on “aspects that concern the social life of humanity, food safety, health protection, social inequalities and poverty, conditions that are still present today and in some respects also increasing in developed countries”. “The hope – added Mattarella – is that these suggestions and considerations will be fully accepted not only by the G7 but also in the framework of the G20 and the entire international community”.
