The seventh round of the Premier League Darts in Newcastle is canceled on Thursday. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the PDC has decided to postpone the event in the Utilita Arena until October 1.
The decision is related to the policy of the government in Britain, which aims to limit “non-essential social contact” and major events. Recently, a line was also drawn by the double round in Rotterdam, which was scheduled for March 25 and 26 and has been moved to September 9 and 10.
Ahoy Rotterdam therefore became the stage for the playoffs, which would normally be held in the O2 Arena in London in May. By moving the seventh round, however, it seems that the play-offs in Newcastle are being completed.
Last Thursday, incidentally, there was still playing in Liverpool, although the players did not give any hands to the spectators and the officials on the podium during their turnout. The players distributed a box to each other.
It is not yet known what will happen to the other rounds in the Premier League. The PDC will return to this later. Coming events are scheduled in Belfast (April 2), Sheffield (April 9), Manchester (April 16), Berlin (April 23) and Birmingham (April 30).
Michael van Gerwen is the defending champion in the Premier League, which he won five times in his career (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019). With a sixth overall victory, he equals record holder Phil Taylor.
