Due to an unmanned signal box, numerous trains in Central Hesse are currently canceled, being rerouted or arriving later. According to the RMV, the reason is a short-term sick note.
Many commuters had to experience it painfully early in the morning: In Central Hesse there were and are massive delays and cancellations in regional transport. The disruption could last at least until midday.
The regional train lines RB40, RB41, RB49, RB90, RE98, RE99 and RE30 are affected. According to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), train operations are currently not possible at Butzbach (Wetterau) station.
Several routes and stops affected
According to Deutsche Bahn, a replacement rail service with buses has been set up on the route between Friedberg and Gießen and Bad Nauheim (Wetterau) and Gießen, which will serve all stops along the way.
According to Deutsche Bahn, long-distance traffic is also affected by the major disruption. Accordingly, IC trains from Stralsund via Frankfurt to Karlsruhe between Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Karlsruhe are canceled. This affects: Wabern (Schwalm-Eder), Treysa (Schwalm-Eder), Marburg, Gießen, Frankfurt Central Station, Darmstadt Central Station and Bensheim (Bergstrasse).
In addition, the Münster-Frankfurt connections between Wetzlar and Frankfurt are canceled. This affects the stops in Bad Nauheim (Wetterau), Frankfurt-West and Frankfurt Central Station.
Railway: Highly specialized specialists
According to RMV, the reason is that the signal box in Butzbach is unmanned due to a short-term sick note. The RMV said: They are trying to organize a replacement by 1 p.m. The replacement bus service should be offered until around 2 p.m.
According to the railway, the employees in the signal boxes are “highly specialized specialists who are difficult to replace in the short term”. The employees must “be trained for the respective signal box technology and region and be trained for the local conditions”. Employees are currently being further trained so that they can be deployed more flexibly.
According to the DB, there are also disruptions in train traffic due to sick staff on the route between Bensheim and Worms (Rhineland-Palatinate). These are expected to last until November 5th. A replacement bus service was set up.
