“Immediately after the invasion of Crimea, Russia began massive repression against those who did not agree to the occupation,” he says.
According to his estimates, about a million Russian citizens have already been brought from Russia to the annexed Crimea. “They are very encouraged by benefits, cash payments for housing, free plots and priority employment,” he told DW news.

And then they start with these people to occupy,” explained Dzhemilev.
People talk to each other in public only about everyday topics, Dzhemilevs added. “Under Soviet rule, at least we talked openly in the kitchen, but now it’s dangerous even in the kitchen, because they listen to absolutely everything.”
