Massive Flooding in Ukraine: Kakhovka Dam Bursts, Thousands Displaced

The Kakhovka dam burst in Ukraine The aftermath of the attack has triggered massive flooding that has displaced thousands of people. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed disappointment at the lack of assistance from the United Nations (UN) and the Red Cross related to the disaster.

“They don’t exist,” Zelenskyy said in English in an interview with German publication Bild Daily.

Reported by the news agency AFPThursday (8/6/2023), the Ukrainian leader added that he was “shocked because I think they are a force that should be there to save people’s lives”.



The bursting of a dam near the frontline in Ukraine has flooded dozens of nearby villages and parts of towns, sparking fears of a humanitarian disaster. Officials say thousands of people have had to leave their homes and many have done so of their own accord.

It was reported that a state of emergency had been declared in the Russian-occupied Kherson region, following widespread flooding triggered by the bursting of a dam in the attack. Thousands of residents’ houses were flooded, with thousands of people forced to flee from their homes.

As reported by Reuters, Wednesday (7/6/2023), news agency reports Russia, TASS, quoting the emergency services, said about 2,700 houses were flooded after the dam burst which is located in the Kherson region on Tuesday (6/6) local time. Nearly 1,300 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas.

Several pro-Moscow officials reported that at least seven people were missing after the floods hit.
