In all municipalities that fall within the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region (VRR), an urgent recommendation will apply from Tuesday evening to wear face masks in public indoor spaces. With this, the Security Region is considerably expanding the advice that Prime Minister Rutte issued on Monday evening.

On Monday, Rutte announced in a specially added press conference that store owners are advised to encourage customers to wear mouth masks. “It is not possible to make it compulsory, but a shopkeeper can refuse a customer who does not wear a mask,” he said.
Four safety regions, including Rotterdam-Rijnmond, do not think that goes far enough. Mayor Femke Halsema of Amsterdam said after the deliberations of all security regions that took place on Monday afternoon: “We request institutions, retailers and the hotel and catering industry to include the wearing obligation in their door policy. In addition, we advise people in contact professions to wear masks.”
Halsema added that she also spoke on behalf of the regions of Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden and Brabant Southeast. A spokesman for the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region confirmed this Monday evening.
The presidents of the security regions, in our region Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb of Rotterdam, are therefore expanding the number of sectors, the number of municipalities (15 in our region) where the advice for wearing mouth masks will apply and adds the contact professions.

The measures will apply from Tuesday 6 p.m. and will provisionally apply for three weeks. Then its effects are evaluated.
