Marvel Studios unveils MCU Phase 5 including Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts movies, and a Daredevil series!

Friday night, Marvel Studios gave an update on its upcoming animated projects in the next two years, while already announcing the renewal of some of them. We even got a trailer for My name is Groot. It is difficult to say for the moment whether these projects are still considered to be all more or less part of the MCU following the panel that has just been held at the san diego comic con and which fans will long remember. In effect, Kevin Feige announced the end of the Phase 4 from Marvel Cinematic Universe (which he unveiled in 2019 at this same convention), unveiled the full programs of the Phase 5 which will run until the summer of 2024 and has even introduced several projects from the Phase 6 with two new movies Avengers for what must now be named The Multiverse Saga ! We will only deal here with the Phase 5 with details given on upcoming projects, separate articles being dedicated to other announcements.

Marvel Cinematic Universe MCU Phase 5 24 07 2022

You read correctly, the Phase 4 from MCU now has an end date and two final projects in its boxes, with on one side the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which was entitled to its trailer and on the other the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, of which a moving first teaser was broadcast to conclude the presentation. It is therefore on November 11 that this transition phase for the cinematic universe Marvel will endwhich has sown some avenues for its future that will continue to be developed in 2023 and 2024.

The Phase 5 will in fact be spread over a year and a half with no less than 6 feature films and just as many Disney+ series for a total of 12 projects most of which we knew existed, not necessarily under their current title. Note that the dates indicated relate to North America and not France for theatrical releases, which are generally a few days early or late. On the side of the series, not really a surprise, but the confirmation of the development new adventures for Daredevil and a name change for the story aroundAgatha Harkness.

Live action series

  • Secret Invasion (Spring 2023) – Cobie Smulders will reprise her role as Maria Hill alongside Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and says the show will be darker than we’re used to. We can thus expect a thriller where we will never really know who is a Skrull and who is a human. An exclusive preview aired on location, featuring the ex-SHIELD commander coming back to Earth. War Machine (Don Cheadle), Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), as well as characters played by Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke will notably be present in the cast of the 6 episodes of this series.
  • Echo (summer 2023)
  • Loki season 2 (summer 2023)
  • Ironheart (Fall 2023)
  • Agatha: Coven of Chaos (hiver 2023)
  • Daredevil: Born Again (printemps 2024) – Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will return over the 18 episodes of this series. Yes, it’s huge.

For movies, Captain America 4 now has a more explicit title and the conclusion of this phase will therefore go through a project on the Thunderboltswhose team building has undoubtedly already begun through the character of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and which could include Yelena Belova / Black Widow (Florence Pugh) et U.S. Agent / John Walker (Wyatt Russell).

Feature films

  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023) – Director Peyton Reed said the film will explore the Quantum Realm, which is not what we think, and introduce new characters. Since helping defeat Thanos, Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) has apparently been busy writing a book. This story will show us a more fragile and vulnerable side of Hope van Dyne / The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), while Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newtown) will become what she was meant to be, namely a superheroine since she appears on a poster made for the SDCC in costume. Again, scenes were shown to the crowd, including Scott picking up Cassie from jail and an explosion in a lab sucking them into the Quantum Realm where a character played by Bill Murray will recognize Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer). In addition, MODOK is in the cast! And if this project is the first of Phase 5, it is for a very specific reason explained by Kevin Feige: Jonathan Majors aka Kang the conqueror.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023) – This will be the end of the story of the band imagined by James Gunn, but that does not mean that everyone will die! Among the scenes again broadcast on the spot against a backdrop of Do You Realize by Flaming Lips, the Guardians are captured by the Ravagers and Nebula (Karen Gillan) evokes an appointment with Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), who is not the one that Peter (Chris Pratt) obviously knew. Most interesting is the name of this film’s enemy, the Master of Evolution, who is played by Chukwudi Iwuji, the latter of whom made a costume appearance during the panel. His presence will explore the origins of Rocket who was “the saddest creature in the universe”. Otherwise, Will Poulter will be Adam Warlock and Maria Bakalova will lend her voice to space dog Cosmo.
  • The Marvels (28 juillet 2023)
  • Blade (November 3, 2023)
  • Captain America: New World Order (3 mai 2024) – Sam Wilson will return following the events of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but nothing more has been formalized for the moment.
  • Thunderbolts (26 juillet 2024) – The roster will include characters we haven’t met yet.

With all this, there will already be enough to have fun in theaters or at home in front of Disney+whose subscription costs as a reminder €8.99 per month or €89.90 per year.
