Martin Lommel, previously chancellor of the Rhein-Main University of Applied Sciences, becomes head of administration at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He succeeds Manfred Efinger, who left office at the end of March at the age of 64 for health reasons. As reported by the TU, the university assembly elected Lommel (photo) Chancellor with 34 out of 48 valid votes; 54 members of the committee were present. He is expected to take office on October 16.

The doctor of chemistry, born in 1976, has been Chancellor of the Rhein-Main University of Applied Sciences since 2020. Previously, he had worked, among other things, as head of the department for teaching and quality assurance at the University of Frankfurt and as EU coordinator in the Hessian Ministry of Science. Part-time he is chairman of the climate protection advisory board of the city of Wiesbaden.

Eva Waller, President of the Rhein-Main University of Applied Sciences, praised Lommel as “solution-oriented, communicative and always highly committed”. We regret his departure “extremely”. In his own words, Lommel wants to advance digitization at the TU Darmstadt, promote new work and campaign for sustainable building and renovation.
