Good news from Martin Fuchs Clooney! A satisfied-looking white horse looks to the left, then to the right. There is a young man crouching in the shavings. You can see that the gray horse is wearing a padded chest strap. He is also hanging in a tissue that runs around his stomach. Clooney, the Cornet Obolensky son, European champion in Rotterdam 2019, who was seriously injured in the pasture last week, recorded on a video in the animal hospital in Zurich.
Martin Fuchs reports an update on Clooney in this way: The mold has suffered a fractured humerus, a fractured upper arm. Initially, a shoulder fracture was assumed. He eats well and is able to put weight on his right front leg. And, almost more importantly, he is “fully himself” at the moment.
Martin Fuchs continues to write on Facebook that Clooney would be well looked after at the Zurich Animal Hospital. The loops that can be seen on the short video help the gelding to stabilize.

The young man you see crouching in a box corner is Sean Vard, Clooney’s caretaker. He and Luigi Baleri, owners of the European Champion and Vice World Champion of Tryon 2018, come to the animal hospital every day to be with Clooney.

The horse’s upper arm, the humerus, lies between the elbow and the shoulder joint (see sketch below). The head of the humerus forms the shoulder joint with the shoulder blade. The upper arm is a strong bone. Still, it can break in different ways. From a smooth fracture to a splinter fracture or an open fracture, everything is possible.

The specialist literature assumes that horses should have between three and six months of rest in their boxes after the fracture has been tended to. Supportive measures such as slings or other suspensions prevent the horse from placing too much weight on the broken bones. As recovery progresses, which is monitored with regular x-rays, the horse can again take on more load on the affected forelimb.
