Marks & Spencer ends up chilled products in the Czech Republic. Freezers are coming because of Brexit

The period of changes at the Czech Marks & Spencer store office is not over. After the temporary closure of the stone shops, the offer of refrigerated products was terminated. This is replaced by an assortment of frozen foods consisting of ready meals, meats, fish, BBQ and desserts.

The reason is not surprising: brexit. “The changing food supply we are announcing today has been driven by significant customer demand for our frozen range since the pandemic began, along with the ongoing challenges we have in delivering fresh food,” said Stephen Smy, M&S Country Manager for the Czech Republic.

This step is intended to enable the company to ensure a high standard of offer for customers and to ensure the maintenance of supplies of quality clothing, household goods and food to the Czech Republic in the future.

The British company Marks & Spencer entered the Czech market twenty-five years ago. At first, only with fashion, which still accounts for seventy percent of turnover, later food was added. The stores were later joined by an e-shop, which has now become the main trade channel at the time of closing stone shops.

As part of the planned changes, Marks & Spencer is now also planning the reconstruction of food sales areas. The first renovated store will open in July in OC Nový Smíchov. He now has a total of sixteen in the Czech Republic and plans to open more this year.
