Markdorf: Organizers invite Ukrainian refugees to an open-air concert

The open-air concerts on the market square in Markdorf are characterized not only by their family atmosphere, but also by the involvement of clubs and social institutions. This is important to the organizers Jens Neumann and Dieter Bös from the culture team in Markdorf.

Support clubs and institutions with a cup deposit

Visitors to the open-air events in 2018 and 2019 were able to donate the deposit on their drinking cups. For this purpose, collection points were set up on the event site where the cups could be handed in. These donations raised around 3,200 euros in 2019 and around 5,000 euros in 2018. Clubs and institutions could apply to the organizers for the 2022 campaign. “We have now made a selection,” says Jens Neumann. The music school in Markdorf, the socio-therapeutic family living group “Sofa Blezinger”, the Bodensee children’s home in Hohenfels and the Markdorfer Tafel are supported.

Make refugees happy by going to a concert

This action also gave rise to the idea of making Ukrainian refugees happy. “But I wasn’t sure whether a concert was the right thing to do,” says Jens Neumann. There was positive feedback about contact with a family in Markdorf that had taken in refugees. The city then invited all Ukrainian refugees registered in Markdorf to a concert of their choice. The Deggenhausertal also took part in the campaign and wrote to the refugees living in the community. Jens Neumann receives the feedback.

If you wish, you can donate vouchers for food and drinks

Jens Neumann and Lucie Fieber, Managing Directors of Markdorf Marketing, have come up with a second campaign to ensure that the visit to the concert is an all-round successful experience. “The refugees don’t have much money and it would be nice if they could also eat and drink something that evening,” says Jens Neumann. Lucie Fieber has designed vouchers worth 15.50 euros each – two drinks for 4 euros each, a meal for 7.50 euros. Citizens can purchase these vouchers from Markdorf Marketing on Hauptstrasse and donate them to the refugees. As a thank you and as a sign of solidarity, everyone who buys a voucher will receive a bracelet in the Ukrainian national colors. If there is a remainder, it goes to the charity, says Jens Neumann.

Anyone who buys a bon card and makes a donation will receive a bracelet in the Ukrainian national colors as a thank you and as a sign of solidarity.
