Marítimo is replacing the pitch of Estádio dos Barreiros, whose chronic problems have forced the Reds to play at home on loan for some matches this season.
The work, which started on May 16, consists of removing 30 centimeters of depth from the land, installing a new drainage and more modern irrigation equipment that will work automatically using an «intelligent» program that will allow watering only areas most in need at any given time.
In a statement, the island club also informed that it will open, this Saturday, the doors of the venue so that fans can observe the work between 14:00 and 18:00.
The turf now removed from the Marítimo stadium was installed at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and has since received criticism from clubs and negative ratings and technical opinions. This season, the Maritimistas’ playing field was the worst among the 18 in the League.
