MEXICALI.- With the aim of strengthening preventive actions against breast cancer, Mayor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda announced that the “Touch yourself so that it does not touch you” campaign will be permanent.

The municipal president thanked Dr. José Rojas Serrato, director of the Maternal and Child Hospital, as well as Dr. María de la Luz Dávalos, responsible for the Breast Cancer Program in the State, for the facilities they will provide.

Marina del Pilar highlighted the importance of actions that allow early detection, since Baja California is among the four entities in the country with the highest mortality rate from this disease, according to INEGI.

In that sense, he specified that since last October, the Government of Mexicali has delivered more than 1,500 vouchers for free mammograms, which are carried out at the Maternal and Child Hospital.

“Although October is the month of the fight against breast cancer, in the government that I lead, we wanted to permanently establish a module in the Municipal Palace where these vouchers are delivered,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. María de la Luz Dávalos, responsible for the Breast Cancer Program in the State, pointed out that of all the cases that occur annually in Baja California, on average, a third of the patients die due to attending afternoon with the specialists.

Therefore, he highlighted the importance of women being able to have access to early detection, as this reduces mortality.

In this regard, Ávila Olmeda reported that with the support of the Health Sector authorities, it will be possible to have the module to deliver vouchers for free mammograms during the rest of 2021.

“If we have healthy women, we will have healthy families. It is important that with the support of children, husbands, parents, boyfriends, friends, we can strengthen and facilitate prevention for all of us, closing the way to cases with a higher probability of mortality ”, he added.
