Maria Amélia Canossa, the voice of the FC Porto anthem has passed away – FC Porto

I was 88 years old

FC Porto is mourning the death of Maria Amélia Canossa, the voice of its anthem and its official march. The singer, born in the city of Porto, disappeared at the age of 88, having spent the last few years of her life in a retirement home in Mafra. Considered one of the voices of the radio for many years, Maria Amélia Canossa became famous for her interpretation of the FC Porto anthem, the one she still sings before the games held at Estádio do Dragão. FC Porto has always been part of her life and there were many times she was present in important moments of the club, always very cherished by Pinto da Costa and by the generality of FC Porto fans. In a note published on its website, FC Porto reported “the success of its greatest creation is so great that the years pass and the anthem remains intact. On the eve of marking seven decades since the release of the chords of Maria’s life Amélia Canossa and FC Porto, the singer disappears to the sadness of all those who – like her – love the club”.

Another sad day for the Porto universe, which just last weekend saw Lima Pereira, former captain and European champion in 1987, leave.

To the family of Maria Amélia Canossa, Record offers the most heartfelt condolences.
