Marcelo Cabo talks about “own DNA” of Série B, sees Vasco falling short in victory, but points to positive factors | Vasco

A hard-fought victory that had an important impact for Vasco in the Serie B table. The 1-0 win against Confiança was not won with a convincing performance in São Januário this Saturday afternoon, for the ninth round. Marcelo Cabo knows this. So much so that he pondered the same measure as he celebrated his third consecutive victory as home team.

“The competition has its own DNA. You’ll face Confiança and get a well-trained team, experienced players, and bring us difficulties. We beat CRB 3-0, but that’s an exception, it’s not a rule, because of competitiveness”

– I understand that we were below everyone’s expectations. We fell short technically. We got disorganized in the first half, we got better afterwards. A determining factor for not having the intensity I would like was the fact that it was the fourth game in nine days, in addition to the embezzlement. The important thing is that we won the third consecutive victory at home and reached the front of the championship. We need to be competitive, we don’t concede goals, which is a goal, but we needed more to increase the score. Now, we have a week of work to recover the athletes. The important thing is that we left with the victory – completed Cabo.

With the result, Vasco jumped to sixth place in Serie B, with 13 points, and faces a direct rival in the fight for the G-4 in the next round. On Friday, at 7 pm (GMT), again in São Januário, the team receives Sampaio Corrêa, who is in fourth place in the table.

The Voice of the Fans – João Almirante: “Vasco does not control the game by winning from 1 to 0”

– I think our game model made the team a little more grouped. We’ve been playing closer, midfield is an important factor and we’ve gained defensive support. We got three wins and two losses were with expelled players. We could have a better streak if it weren’t for these expulsions. We know the points we owe, where we need to improve, but there was a closer proximity to midfield. Until the goal, we were very good in the game. In the second half, fatigue hit the team and Confiança grew.

Good phase in São Januário

– After the first two defeats at home, we’ve rethought the game platform a bit. Vasco always have to win at home, they have to be very strong, and Serie B is that. In a running points championship, you have to win at home and score away. We have a greater defensive support, we changed the way of marking and we greatly reduced the number of goals in set pieces. We evolved in some aspects, we owe it in others, and it is this balance that I need to seek for the team to be able to propose a game and bring more shine to our model.

Greater ownership of the Trust

– It was 60 x 40, right?! We were very tired, especially in the second half. In the last game, we played 90 minutes with one less and the count would come in the second half. We played together because we knew that at some point they would have more intensity than us. We’ve scored six goals in our last home games and conceded one. We started the game in 4-4-2, we came back from the break in 4-2-3-1, changing to 4-3-3 and we managed to create situations. They are very well defined game platforms.

Good entry from Figueiredo

– Not just Figueiredo. Arthur also came in very well. They are pinned U-20 players. Figueiredo can play as a winger or as a 9. He has a good area presence, a good transition, and is a player in formation, he will fluctuate during the games. It gave me a good alternative for not having Jabá. And Arthur gave it to me when I needed to get Pec out. There are two players in the Under-20 who edge and make 9. We wanted to play more in Confiança’s field to expand the score and we couldn’t.
