Marc-Vivien-Foé Prize: Habib Diallo, best Senegalese in the ranking

Dakar, June 29 (APS) – FC Metz striker (French elite), Habib Diallo, finished fourth in the 2020 edition of the Marc-Vivien-Foé Prize for the best African footballer in France, won by the Nigerian Victor Oshimen , Lille attacker (French elite), announces RFI on its website.

In the ranking, Oshimen is ahead of Algerian Islam Slimani (Monaco) and Moroccan Yunis Abdelhamid (Stade de Reims).

The Nigerian striker aged 21 and a half succeeds the Ivorian Nicolas Pépé and becomes the youngest winner of this trophy awarded each year to the best African player in the French championship (Ligue 1).

Messin forward Habib Diallo, 24, and his club’s top scorer with 12 goals, takes fourth place. He is the highest ranked of the four Senegalese who had been shortlisted.

They are, in addition to Diallo, Edouard Mendy, Mbaye Niang (Rennes) and Idrissa Gana Gueye (PSG), champion of France.

We will therefore have to wait a little longer to see a Senegalese man win the Marc-Vivien-Foé Prize, despite the presence of four Lions among the 11 finalists of this 12th edition.

Victor Oshimen, winner of the prize, with 284 points, is the author of 13 goals and four assists in 27 Ligue 1 matches, according to RFI.

Osimhen is the fifth Lille player to have received this distinction after Gervinho (2010, 2011), Vincent Enyeama (2014), Sofiane Boufal (2016) and Nicolas Pépé (2019).

Lille has won the Marc-Vivien-Foé Prize six times, which has been awarded since 2009.
