Every year, approximately 4,500 patients in the Netherlands sustain a variety of serious injuries after an accident. Research from this site into the treatment location of people with multiple injuries shows that 1500 patients are delivered to a regional hospital, rather than to a trauma center. “In regional hospitals they say: we can just as well have trauma care here. But that attitude costs lives,” says Loek Leenen, the head of the trauma department at UMC Utrecht.
