Many ‘Laws’ of Myanmar Junta, This Time Australia!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The ‘punishment’ to the Myanmar military junta comes again. After a number of countries cut off financing and the United States (US) blocked funding for a number of officials, this time decisive action came from Australia.

The coup that took place in Myanmar prompted Australia to suspend its defense cooperation program with Burma. Foreign Minister Marise Payne said the decision was taken because of the military junta’s frequent crackdown on anti-coup civilian protesters.

However, the continent said it would still provide assistance to citizens. However, it will not enter the government’s line.

“We will prioritize humanitarian and most urgent needs and seek to ensure our humanitarian engagement, with and through non-governmental organizations. (Tapii) is not with the government (junta) or government-linked entities,” Payne said in a statement on Sunday. 3/2021) evening, quoted from Reuters.

On the same occasion, Australia also demanded the immediate release of Sean Turnell, an economist and advisor to the leader who was swept up in Aung San Suu Kyi’s coup. Turnell has been held with limited consular access since the February 1 coup.

Previously, massive demonstrations took place over the Australian weekend. The demonstrators urged the Australian government to take a firm stance against the Myanmar coup.

Indonesia’s neighbor in Southeast Asia has fallen into chaos after the army took control and detained its elected leaders. In the UN report, the force used by the authorities to disperse the protests has killed more than 50 people.

“We continue to urge the Myanmar security forces to exercise restraint and refrain from violence against civilians,” Payne said.
