Many Czechs have blocked credit cards. The reason is the insolvency of the German company Wirecard

Payment cards issued by Wirecard have been blocked since Friday. The company is insolvent after the detection of widespread revenue falsification. The British regulatory authority revoked its banking license yesterday, so it is no longer possible to use payment cards that were issued via Wirecard. After revoking the card’s license, Wirecard disconnected the key card companies Visa and MasterCard from their systems worldwide.

As of Friday afternoon, for example, tens of thousands of cards from the domestic startup Twisto, which mainly provides deferred payments on the Internet, have stopped working. Twista has an account with 140,000 people. Payment cards from Fidoo, a company dealing with corporate finance, which belongs to the group of the domestic insurance company Direct, also have problems.

The O2 eKasa payment terminal also works via Wirecard, so it no longer accepts payment cards. “Wirecard declared insolvency and informed us on June 26, 2020 at 6:00 pm that the provision of the card payment service used by some O2 eKasa customers will soon be suspended,” the company told its clients.

Due to the fall of Wirecard, millions of people in the whole of Europe have their cards blocked today.

The collapse of Wirecard began last week, when its auditors stated that the company lacked over 50 billion crowns, which it reported in its accounts. Some German politicians are asking for the head of the head of the financial regulator BaFin due to the scandal.
