Manuel Neuer named Germany’s Player of the Year

Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, who was an integral part of the club’s treble winning campaign last season, has been voted Germany’s Player of the Year (via DFB) by the fans of Die Mannschaft. It is safe to say that the skipper fully deserves the honour after his staggering performance between the sticks which played a major role in helping the Bavarians land the silverwares.

Neuer received a total of 57.8 percent of the vote. Serge Gnabry and Matthias Ginter came second and third in the poll with 15 and 9.3 percentages of vote respectively. These individual accolades are icing on an already delicious cake for the Bavarians. This is Neuer’s third big award of the year – he has already been named the best male goalkeeper by FIFA and UEFA a month ago.

The 34-year-old kept 22 clean sheets in 51 matches at the club level last season, conceding 49 goals. It is mesmerising to watch Neuer guard the goal; no matter how scary some moments were during the Champions League knockouts last season, his presence is what kept the Bayern fans at ease for the most part.
