Declining immunization rate in Indonesia

According to the data presentation of the Ministry of Health, during the COVID-19 pandemic, coverage of complete basic immunization in infants has decreased dramatically So there’s an immunity gap.

The concern is that if this immunity gap is not addressed immediately, there will be an increase in cases and extraordinary events (KLBs) that will become a double burden in the midst of a pandemic.

Just said polio, which was recently designated as an extraordinary event (KLB) in Indonesia. This is the continuation of Indonesia’s first case of polio since it was declared polio-free in 2014.

Immunization become the most important effort to create childhood immunity. Why, if the child is not given compulsory immunization it can be at risk of causing dangerous diseases to be contracted easily because there is no immunity to the disease.

In 2022 the Ministry of Health will do it increase the number of mandatory routine vaccinations in Indonesiafrom 11 vaccines to 14 vaccines.

Routine immunization is a government program that means people don’t have to pay for vaccine, including the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine.

The 11 types of vaccines previously used include:

1. Complete basic immunization in infants aged 0-11 months

• 1 month: BCG Polio 1, prevention of transmission of tuberculosis and poliomyelitis
• 2 months : DPT-HB-Hib 1 Polio 2, prevents polio, diphtheria, pertussis, rethane, hepatitis B, meningitis and pneumonia
• 3 months: DPT-HB-Hib 2 Polio 3
• 4 months: DPT-HB-Hib 3 Polio 4
• 9 Months : Measles, prevent measles

2. Advanced immunization for children aged 18-24 months

• 1 dose of DPT-HB-Hib immunization, is to prevent diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, pneumonia and meningitis
• Immunization against measles rubella 1 dose

3. Advanced immunization of elementary school children in the National Immunization Month annual schedule

• Measles immunization against rubella and DT in first graders
• Tetanus diphtheria td immunization in grade 2 and grade 5 children

The 3 additional vaccinations are; Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), rotavirus vaccine, and human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine.
