The accident happened around 12.30 pm, when the man in his exclusive BMW M3 – reportedly worth around 80,000 euros – deviated from his lane for unknown reasons and left the road in the Bossuit-Kortrijk canal ended up. The cockpit of the car disappeared under water. The driver remained cool-headed. The man managed to get his window down and then open the car door. That way he could escape. The driver was unharmed but became hypothermic. He was transferred to AZ Groeninge as a precaution. His car is ready for the scrap heap. The incident, for which the fire brigade was also called with a few divers, did not cause any significant traffic disruption in the area.
