Man in his 40s accused of negligently causing the death of 6-year-old in tragic cycling accident – latest updates

On August 18 last year, three days before school started, the six-year-old was out cycling when he was hit by a returning car.

Now the driver of the car, a man in his 40s, is accused of negligently causing the death of another person, reports Nordlys.

In the lawsuit, it is said that the man “was not aware enough of the traffic behind him, including that he did not keep the right of way”, writes the newspaper .

– The waiting time is heavy

NRK has been in touch with the defense of the accused, lawyer Mads Wallerheim, who does not want to comment on the case.

Support lawyer Cato Simonsen says that he and the victims are aware that charges have now been brought in the case.

– The relatives are happy that the investigation into the case is over and that they now have something more concrete to deal with, says Simonsen to Dagbladet.

The case has not yet been registered for Nord-Troms and Senja District Court, writes Nordlys.

– The waiting time during the investigation has been heavy on the relatives, and they are looking forward to the legal cases being completed, says Simonsen’s aid lawyer.

– Very difficult

The mayor of the town of Senja at the time, Tom-Rune Eliassen (Sp), said last year that the deadly accident had a big impact on the town.

– This is a very sad event, which has affected the local community, Eliasen told Dagbladet.

The death was celebrated, among other things, at the school where Chrisander was about to start second grade.

– His desk was empty. A photo of him was put up and a candle lit in his place, the mayor said.

The six-year-old’s family then explained how they were moved with the help of the local community.
