Manchester City may agree with the forward Barcelona Lionel Messi preliminary contract in January, reports The Telegraph.
It is noted that the Argentine does not plan to discuss with the Catalan club the topic of his future until the end of the season.
The striker’s current contract with Barsa runs until June 30, 2021.
A Barcelona presidential election is set for March, after which the new leadership may begin to renew Messi’s current agreement. However, other clubs along with Man City it is possible to agree on the terms of a future contract earlier.
Earlier, Manchester City’s COO Omar Berrada said the club will explore option with the signing of the player if he leaves the blue garnet.
