Malawi’s new president Lazarus Chakwera has removed the boards of at least 60 parastatal structures just days after taking office. A government statement received Wednesday at APA says the measure to dissolve the boards administration takes effect immediately, Chakwera wasting no time in honoring his electoral promise to “disinfect and restore the mental health of the system”.
Chakwera, who was sworn in last Sunday after defeating outgoing president Peter Mutharika in last week’s presidential election, came to power promising sweeping reforms to state institutions.

Some of the structures affected by the dissolution order include the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (national broadcasting), the Communications and Standards Regulatory Authority, the Electricity Supply Commission and the National Examinations Commission.
