Making Poisoning and Overdose, CDC Back About Ivermectin for Covid-19

Suara.com – Opposition to the use of deworming drugs ivermectin kept coming, this time coming from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the CDC against ivermectin for Covid-19.

The CDC reiterated this prohibition, after thousands of Americans were suspected of using the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin. This is due to the circulation of false information and the assumption that ivermectin can prevent and treat Covid-19.

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, the CDC warned doctors that there was a fivefold increase in calls for poison control officers, due to toxic or poisoning after using ivermectin, as reported by Live Science, Friday (27/8/2021).

In fact, many people buy the drug ivermectin which is prescribed for animals, and they buy it without a prescription even though the drug is not safe for use in humans, because it can cause serious side effects.

Recently in the United States there has been misinformation circulating about ivermectin, and it being used as a Covid-19 drug, even though this drug did not get a legal permit for Covid-19 from the US BPOM, namely the FDA.

The US National Institutes of Health (NIS) said there was insufficient evidence to use ivermectin as a Covid-19 drug. Even the results of a study in March 2021, showed that for mild cases of Covid-19, ivermectin was not found to be beneficial.

Unfortunately before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the CDC, US retail pharmacies only sold an average of 3,600 prescriptions of ivermectin per week. But over the past few months, demand for ivermectin has skyrocketed by more than 88,000 prescriptions per week, particularly in August 2021.

Even data at the poison control center in the US shows that the risk of exposure to the dangers of ivermectin tripled in January 2021, and fivefold in July 2021, compared to before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

Meanwhile, the use of veterinary drugs aimed at large animals such as horses and cattle, can be very dangerous for humans. This is because the drug is taken in larger doses, so it can cause overdose.
