Make up for deficits and enjoy learning

At the Eichendorffschule, there are learning holidays from the non-profit GmbH Climb for children from low-income families.

Learn cleverly, always stay motivated. Or short climb. The non-profit GmbH founded in Hamburg in 2012 offers learning holidays for children from low-income families. This year for the first time in Offenbach at the Eichendorff School for 30 students. Students are available as teachers.

“It is important to us that the offer is low-threshold,” says Jennifer Busch, co-founder of the Climb learning vacation. If the premises were outside the school, many parents would be skeptical. “But we are also outside a lot and go on excursions,” explains Busch.

The 30 children from the Eichendorff School take them to the climbing park and the Experimenta Museum in Frankfurt. The Climb makers came to the Eichendorffschule after talks with the Volkshochschule (VHS) Offenbach.

“The Offenbach education report showed a particularly high level of social stress in the Eichendorff School,” reports Kai Seibel, head of the department for education coordination and advice.

The German summer is already being offered at the school to support children with language difficulties. “That has been well received,” says the headmistress Alma Obradovac, who with her colleagues has promoted the learning holidays to the parents. 290 euros of the 540 euros participation costs are covered by the education and participation package and donations. The Karl Megerle Foundation pays 200 euros per child.

For the parents, 50 euros remain as an appreciation contribution. “We always saw our role as organizing additional educational projects,” says school department head Paul-Gerhard Weiß (FDP). The study holidays are an opportunity to make up for the deficits due to the pandemic. For Jennifer Busch, the most important thing is that the children develop fun learning, self-organization and self-confidence. Tim
