“The new Chief of the General Staff at the suggestion of Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky appointed Major General Anatoly Bargilevich. An experienced person understands the tasks of this war and Ukrainian goals,” the head of state said.
According to Zelensky, today Syrsky identified the candidacies of his deputies. Deputy Chiefs of the General Staff have also been identified.
“And I will sign the corresponding decrees. All the guys are combative, professional, each with a clear knowledge of the front and the real needs of Ukrainian soldiers,” he added.
Let us note that before this Bargilevich headed the Territorial Defense Forces.
Who is Bargilevich
During the initial period of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, Bargilevich served as head of the operational training department of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff. Later he served at the headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Operation.
In 2016, Bargilevich was appointed head of the operational directorate of the Ground Forces Command, where he was responsible for the development of territorial defense.

From 2020 to 2022, the major general served as deputy commander of the Ground Forces – commander of the Territorial Defense Command. In 2022-2023, he served as chief of staff of the OSGV Khortitsa. The commander of this group was Syrsky before his appointment as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In October 2023, Bargilevich was appointed commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Yesterday, Zelensky dismissed Valery Zaluzhny from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and appointed Alexander Syrsky, who had previously headed the Ground Forces, in his place.
Today, RBC-Ukraine learned from its own sources that Bargilevich is being considered for the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine instead of Shaptala.
