Major disruptions to Apple’s cloud services can pose problems for users

If you’re having trouble with your Apple cloud services today, you’re not alone. Small hiccups are common with cloud services, but Apple appears to be in the midst of an unusually extensive service outage.

the Apple system status page displays a red “interrupt” tag for dozens of online resources. Almost all of the main syncing features of iCloud (mail, notes, calendar, contacts, passwords, and more) appear to be inactive. Photos and iMessage are two of the services that Apple users trust multiple times a day and which can be inaccessible.

Updated 02/03/2021 15:30 PST: The Apple System Status page changed the problem areas from the red “outage” label to the yellow “problem” label. You may still have problems with some services.

These outages may or may not affect you, depending on your geographic location. The fact that the status page shows a large fourteen Services in red (about one in five) are cause for concern. If any of the services are failing you, there’s not much you can do except wait for Apple or the service providers it partners with to fix it.

Some problems started shortly after 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and only got worse over time. As of this writing (11:30 am), there has been no improvement.
